We are a small law firm that provides sophisticated services in the area of business law to our clients. Our company name derives from the 1950’s play and follow-on feature movie of the same name, Twelve Angry Men, in which 12 jurors are tasked with rendering a verdict as to whether a young man murdered his father. A mandatory death penalty is in play. The story follows the deliberations of the jury and, in fact, takes place almost entirely in the unairconditioned juror room on a hot summer day.
At the outset of deliberations, the 12 jurors determine that they have an almost unanimous verdict of guilty—the only holdout is juror number 8. The 8th juror (played brilliantly by Henry Fonda in the 1957 film) is faced with increasing pressure from the other jurors as he refuses to change his vote but, rather, calmly and deliberately analyzes and questions each of them as to the bases for their respective conclusions. In doing so, he encounters prejudice, hostility, disinterest, and even naiveté in his fellow jurors, and must overcome all of these challenges if he is to get the group to agree upon the proper verdict. In the end, the 8th juror is able to sway each and every other member of the jury to change their vote, the boy is found not guilty, and his life is spared.
We are the 8th Juror. We take pride in our ability to view our clients’ problems and challenges from a variety of perspectives, not succumbing to the easy path or answer just because it is the path of least resistance. We are the calm in the storm; the cool head in the room when those around us grow hostile or too emotional. We are educated. We are prepared. And we don’t get pushed over.
Our vibe is not that of the typical, stodgy law firm--we are far more creative and outgoing. No scales of justice in the logo, please :)
