I'm a criminal defense attorney. My clients are usually undereducated but with an appreciation for a savvy experienced trial lawyer. My website is www.swaynelawoffice.com to get an idea of my practice and services (don't pay attention to site design; it's just something to get the site out there, but isn't a design I really like).

I want something that conveys class, style, intelligence. Power in the court room. But with a feminine touch. I'm a female lawyer in a male dominated field and I'd like my logo to tell the clients: that's the lady lawyer I saw in court (without coming across as too girly that it appears a logo for a cupcake stand instead of a law practice).

I like monograms. I also like the business name with an icon/logo image included. Or just the name w/ a nice abstract stylistic design included.

Colors: I like the idea of greens and golds or yellows or oranges possibly. Or maybe some blues or purples. I like brown over black. I tend to wear clothing in more earthy tones, and like the idea of my logo matching my appearance in that regard. But I do not want the logo to look like it's for a health food coop or a yoga studio. I still want the overall feel to be law firm, not environmentally.

UPDATED May 28:
I've changed my mind on the greens and golds--I think. I'm open right now and would like to see many different options.
Also, size of font: If you make the name and "the law office of" text different sizes, make the name the focal point and larger. Thanks!
