    What is your organization name?
    Beam Mobility
    Describe what your organization or product does and its target audience
    Beam is a start-up company, less than 18 months old, focussed on creating personal mobility ride-sharing services across APAC. In the first instance, that means e-scooters and e-bikes, but in the longer term may evolve to a variety of vehicle types – all electric, and all shared.

    At Beam, we have ambitions to make our brand and our marketing much more distinctive. We want it to feel more like a consumer brand than a tech brand, because whilst the scooters are controlled through an app, the product is a very physical and offline experience. And ultimately, it’s a mobility service for everyone, not just valley hipsters.

    So in building a brand idea, we started with the Beam brand name and have created a concept that plays off the sci-fi connotations of the word (laser beam, ray beam, beam-me-up etc).

    In practical terms, an alien is a very useful character for cross-border advertising, because he dodges the ethnicity issue that casting a human front person would pose in such a diverse region.
    We’re thinking of a little alien spaceman. So they’re in a suit, with a helmet on. We’ll never see their face, which makes it a lot easier for us to create quick variations of the character, and avoids the complications and costs of lip sync when we’re doing 3D.

    And we think we’ll still be able to convey personality, even though the character is masked.
