Every child is an artist. It takes a passion that helps to remain an artist once he/she grows up. In the ‘Being An Artist’ series, we are determined to encourage such artists who are passionate about their childhood dreams and work hard to keep them alive. PrintShop by Designhill has always represented and introduced them to our global community by sharing about their career journey. In this post, we’ve shared a young and talented artist hailing all from a small town in Indonesia.

Meet Boby Atmajaya, a 22 years old student and a part-time freelancer from a small town in East Java, Indonesia. During his middle school days, he was fond of editing pictures. It turned out to be his hobby since it was fun doing it. He wanted to create his imaginary world with Photoshop and even started uploading it on the internet. Since then, he got an immense fan following on Instagram where he has been sharing his discoveries from day one. Later, he decided to take his passion to a big level and make money by sharing his art with the world. He enrolled in PrintShop and started creating artwork for phone cases and other products.

Talking about his love for the artwork and journey, he said-

‘I was born in Ngawi, a small town in East Java, Indonesia. I started editing about 7 years ago when I was in middle school. It became my hobby because it was really fun. I have always liked watching movies, reading novels and playing video games. These activities help me to stay motivated and get inspired for creating my artworks. Once I started using Photoshop, I always wanted to create my world with Photoshop. I wanted to share various sides of humans and animals and create dreamy encounters of various objects that I used to see in my dreams. Therefore, I started doing photo manipulation and uploading my work on the internet. I feel blessed that I’ve received so much love for these edits. It motivated me to pursue my passion as a career. Now, I work with various art-related platforms as a freelancer along with my studies. I’ve created multiple artforms for phone cases on PrintShop which has been quite a hit among the youth.’

PrintShop- What’s your process of creating a piece of artwork and what tools and techniques do you use?

Boby- I prefer to use Adobe Photoshop. My favorite technique is masking and my favorite tool is Liquify. I use it because it’s very unique and easy to use. By using the tool, you can freely change the shape of an object with it just in seconds.

PrintShop- How do you find inspiration and stay creative?

Boby- Inspiration has no limits. It can come from anywhere. But, most of my inspiration is from video games & movies. I love watching movies and playing video games all the time. I guess every guy of my age loves it instinctively. We can’t help it. To stay creative, all I do is think outside the box and be different from others’ artwork.

PrintShop-  Did you face any challenges in your artistic journey? If so, How did you overcome it?

Boby- Art block is the only challenge in my artistic journey. It’s normal. I completely understand that. But, it feels claustrophobic when it happens. However, whenever it happens, the things I do are get up and walk, play games, or maybe socialize with people. That helped me a lot to overcome the art block.

PrintShop-  What is the best advice you’ve gotten as an artist or the most important thing you’ve learned?

Boby- Don’t copy or use people’s work without permission. It’s not ethical. If you’re an artist or creator and inspired by someone’s work, it’s better to give the credit from original work if you publish it.
