Google Acquires Restaurant Website Design Company Appetas

Website Design

Internet search giant Google has recently acquired restaurant website design company Appetas. The financial terms of the acquisition have not been officially disclosed.

Appetas provides slick and attractive website templates for small businesses, specifically in the culinary and restaurant industry. The Appetas site can be used by restaurants to create their own websites with integrated services such as GrubHub and OpenTable, thereby adding extra features like reservations and delivery services.

Announcing the acquisition in a blog post, Seattle-based Appetas said that the purchase by Google implies that Appetas is closing down with immediate effect, with customers being moved to other platforms. Google has also apparently issued the Appetas staff an edict to work on “new endeavors.”

In its blog post, Appetas said that its team is excited to join Google; and added: “Google shares Appetas’ vision for bringing incredibly simple experiences to merchants that strengthen their business. We’re very excited to use what we’ve learned with Appetas to create something even better at Google.”

The acquisition of Appetas by Google indicates that Google is seemingly keen on building up its relationship with local businesses, especially with restaurants. The company is probably looking to compete with popular restaurant review app Yelp.
