How to Decide on the Best Design from a Crowdsource Contest?

Last updated on September 22nd, 2021

Once you’ve launched a design contest to get a new logo, website, or other design for your business, you will begin to get many contest entries – or design ideas – from designers who want to work with you. But the question here is; how do you choose the best design for your business? In this post, we’re going to look at a couple of tactics you can use that will help you get the right design.

1. Ask Your Audience

One way to pick a great design and engage your business’s fans is by simply asking them to weigh in on what design you should go with for your next design project. For example, let’s take a book cover design.

Getting your audience involved in the design helps you promote it to your audience. You don’t have to wait until it’s ready and say, “Hey, buy my book.” You get your book design in front of your audience early in a way that helps them feel involved and, subconsciously or consciously, gets them interested in its contents at the same time.

Plus, as an added bonus, people tend to remember 85% of the questions they are asked, versus 30% of the sentences they hear. Hence, asking your audience will have a more memorable affect than telling them something.

2. Look At Your Competitors

Another great way to pick a design is by looking at what your competitors are doing. For example, if all of your competitors have a dark, hard to read website design, maybe you will realize that you could win customers by having a light, easy to read website design.

Alternatively, maybe you have received lots of great designs from your design contest, and you’re having a hard time choosing. But once you realize that your competitors have a creative website design that fits a certain mold, it will help you see the designer that has matched that mold. Then, your decision will be clear.

3. Go With Your Gut

Sometimes, what your audience likes or what your competitors use in terms of design just doesn’t resonate with you and what you want your business to represent. That’s when you have to just go with your gut. 50% of decisions made by companies come down to a gut decision. When you look at all of the designs submitted in your design contest, which one stands out to you?

Envision yourself handing out your new brochure design to clients, vendors, or partners. Now ask yourself, out of the designs in front of you, which one is the one you can envision yourself giving out as the best representation of your business? If there is a clear winner that is obvious to you, then it’s likely best for your business.
