The Navarasa-based Logo Design
Indian theatre uses ‘Navarasa’ to describe the nine emotions viewers experience when watching a play. The idea of Navrasa, as the logo design, alludes to the nine emotions a spectator may feel while watching a performance. It serves as the foundation for the brand identity for the 2023 World Cup.
The ‘Navarasa’ has been redesigned in the context of the upcoming World Cup to symbolize the feelings experienced by spectators during pivotal cricket matches. Joy, power, pain, respect, pride, bravery, glory, wonder, and passion are the emotions that the ‘Navarasa’ symbols and colors stand for.
The World Cup gains even more intensity and depth due to this innovative application of the ‘Navarasa’ in a cricketing environment, as supporters can relate to these feelings while watching their favorite teams compete.
“The Navarasa has been reimagined in a cricketing context, using symbols and color to depict the various emotions fans feel while living the drama and excitement of a World Cup cricket match,” the cricket body wrote in a message while introducing the logo.
The Chief Executive of ICC, Geoff Allardice, also highlighted the logo’s objective when he said, “We are delighted to reveal the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 brand, showcasing the raw emotion and enjoyment of cricket brings to fans across the world through the Navarasa. We have an exciting six months ahead as we build up to deliver the biggest Cricket World Cup ever.”
