June is LGBT Pride Month and celebrated every year to commemorate the Stonewall riots that occurred in June 1969. But the parade couldn’t take place this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Designhill came forward to celebrate the LGBT community’s spirit through the ‘PRIDE Challenge 2020.’ Here is a list of winners and their winning designs for the contest.
Being different isn’t a curse; it’s a blessing! June — the official Pride Month is when the LGBTQ community of the world rejoice the freedom to be different and be themselves. A peep in history unfolds the struggles of these minority groups for decades to conquer prejudices and be recognized for who they really are.
It’s also the month to pay tribute to the Stonewall revolt that occurred in June 1969 in NYC.
Designhill also came forward to celebrate the spirit of the LGBT community and organized a ‘PRIDE Challenge 2020’ contest. But before we explain everything about this contest, let’s dive a little deeper into the Pride Month first.
Who celebrates Pride Month?
Anyone who thinks that their sexual orientation falls outside the typical norms celebrates the pride events. But there are no restrictions on who comes and joins it; even straight people can join in.
LGBT stands for L= lesbian, G= gay, B= bisexual, and T= transgender. Sometimes, the term is extended to LGBTQ or LGBTQIA, which means Q = queer, I= intersex, and A= asexual groups.
Non-straight people come under the umbrella term — queer. On the other hand, intersex denotes those people whose sex isn’t clearly defined due to biological, hormonal, or genetic differences. Asexual people are those who do not experience any sexual attraction.
People who are gender fluid (whose gender identity changes over time) also come under these terms.
Now, let’s get back to our ‘Pride Challenge 2020.’
It was a Pride-theme based challenge. Designers around the world were given seven categories to create and submit their designs. These categories were —
- Love
- Freedom
- Hope
- Community
- Family
- Render the Slogan ( Break the closet, come out and loud, be proud, it a matter of pride)
- Favorite LGBTQ+ (celebrity)
Trust us! We received many fantastic design submissions!
However, we had to choose one winner for each category. So, here are those who left us speechless with their stunning designs.

01. Sophia Gray for LOVE (@sophia.gray_designs)
A riot of colors! Sophia’s Pride Challenge design for the love category showcases rainbow colors, brilliantly tweaked in all shades of nature. The word ‘Love’ portraying lovers is a divine word of art. Using peacocks, motifs, the sun, and flowers, Sophia just nailed it!
02. Dil M. Limbu for FREEDOM (@dil.m.l)
When you accept your uniqueness, you attain freedom in true sense. Often people dread their uniqueness. They even consider it their flaw. But here, with this fantastic artwork, Dil has broken the stereotypes. The wings symbolize freedom, while the illustration sends out the powerful message to be who you really are!
03. PJDesigns for HOPE (@dsgnpj)
The sky is the limit for those who aim high. Portraying hope with the limitless sky and rainbow hues, this entry from PJDesigns is simple but impactful. The illustration of a girl sitting on the edge of a cliff actually denotes no fear.
04. Nikita Sachanandani for COMMUNITY (@11.11_graphicdesign)
Nikita’s artwork for Community theme is eye-catching. She depicted the LGBT community using the acronym and a combination of illustrations in a rainbow of colors! In short words, it’s meaningful, unique, and beautiful!
05. MaricarmenHerrejón for FAMILY (@mcarmenhrr)
This artwork of MaricarmenHerrejón is all about ‘AWW.’ There is nothing as special as a family, nothing as supportive as a family, and nothing as enjoyable as a family.
A heart filled with rainbow colors shows the joy, happiness, blissfulness, and ecstasy that family members share amongst each other. Even words aren’t enough to describe the beauty of this entry. Truly amazing!
06. Veronica for SLOGAN (@letteringbynica)
The iconic line from the sassiest Latina les***— Glee is what Veronica has turned into a work of art. She has used the colors of the rainbow to color every word. The quote is powerful in itself.
07. Manisha for CELEBRITY (@manisha__sen_)
Who doesn’t know Ellen DeGeneres? The favorite LGBT celebrity and a source of inspiration for many! Manisha portrayed her beautifully in her artwork entry for our PRIDE Challenge 2020. She used DeGeneres’ powerful quote and rainbow colors in the background.
Conclusion
