Thurston's novel comically deals with social stereotypes imposed over colored people. Hence, in the book cover the black man silhouette lacks a face and is in a stooped position. To subtract seriousness from the underlying theme of the literary work, bright and cheerful colors have been chosen, which at the same time recall the African culture. In addition, a fun font has been chosen. The ethnic background helps to emphasize the concept of the novel. The idea is clear: the black man is surrounded by social expectations with which he does not feel fully identified.
