Google Revamps Its Iconic ‘G’ Logo with a Sleeker, More Balanced Look
Google has unveiled a new version of its iconic ‘G’ logo on Sunday — its most noticeable update in nearly a decade. The significant changes announced by the 9to5 Google are mainly in its color scheme, while the letter G's sans format remains the same. The updated logo is already appearing on the Google iOS app. However, Google has yet to announce its plans for other platforms, including Android.
The revamp aims at how the four traditional colors scheme — red, yellow, green, and blue, interact visually. However, it is not yet clear if Google will apply the new update to its six-letter logo and other apps, including Chrome and Maps.
Previously, these colors appeared in their darker schemes — each distinctively separated from the other. Now, the colors fade into the nearby color, giving a fading impression to the gradient design. So, the newly revamped ‘G’ logo eliminates the distinctive color boundaries and blends the colors organically. This measure helps in giving the logo depth and balance.
Google has not issued an official explanation for revamping the logo. One reason could be that Google wanted to build a distinctive brand image in the AI age, as most of the tech giant's products are now integrated with AI.
In 2015, Google last updated its logo to make the search engine easily accessible from mobile phones and other such devices across different platforms. That was the shift from being a desktop-oriented search engine to mobile devices.
That was when Google recreated its logo in sans-serif. The letter ‘g’ in white was replaced with a logo in a circular shape in four colors.
Meanwhile, Google's Gemini chatbot has emerged as a powerful competitor to Openai's Chatgpt. Its latest version, Gemini 2.5 Pro, has captured users’ attention and is quite popular. Google is already increasingly using Gemini to provide users with an AI perspective of a topic in the search results. Most of the Gemini features are accessible to the users of Gmail, Drive, Docs, Calendar, Keep, and Tasks.
