PayPal switches to a flat logo design
After 25 years, PayPal — the payment processing company — introduces a new logo design to resonate with today’s customers. The company’s new logo is created by Pentagram. The logo design looks plain and flat compared to its earlier version, which has two shades of blue and a subtle but stylish slanting feature.
According to the company, the latest logo change, the black wordmark logo, won’t collide with other logos in the payment processing domain. The color blue is widely used in the fintech world, and to break that monotony, they decided to go with the black wordmark logo for PayPal.
PayPal isn’t alone in switching to a flat logo version. In fact, there are many companies like Johnson & Johnson, Petco, and more.
Pentagram came up with a custom typeface — PayPal Pro based on LL supreme, which actually is based on Futura.
Though the company has started using this logo, but claims to launch it formally with the upcoming PayPal debit card.
