Xiaomi India introduces a new brand identity and logo design for REDMI
Xiaomi India has announced the launch of its new logo for its Redmi smartphone brand. The redesigned wordmark is part of the company’s strategy to give a refreshed look to its smartphones in India.
The company has revealed this intention in a letter outlining how the brand has evolved and what its user base is. The letter is titled, “For the Dreamers Who Made Us Dream Bigger.” The new logo has a tagline attached, which says, “Redmi is NOW THE NEW REDMI.”
A red and white wordmark
The newly redesigned Redmi logo is a wordmark with all of its letters capitalized. A notable feature of this logo is its use of an entirely bright red background.
A chief attraction of the logo is that the letters are in bolder, capitalized, and sans-serif font. All the letters appear in white, which presents a contrast against the background for instant visibility of the brand name.
Targeting new mature and evolved users
Regarding this change in the logo, Sudhin Mathur, Chief Operating Officer at Xiaomi India, has said that it is not about creating an entirely new identity. The company, in a letter, has said, “We’re not abandoning who we were. We’re becoming who you need us to be.”
He said ---’’ Redmi has always stood for making the impossible possible. Over the past decade, we were often the first smartphone for millions of Indians. Their trust and feedback shaped our path. Today, those users have grown, and so have we. The new Redmi identity reflects this shared evolution. Young India is bold yet grounded, ambitious yet self-aware. We are not leaving behind who we were, but becoming who our users need us to be. This rebranding is a tribute to the resilience, clarity, and progress we see in our community every day. As our users grow, we grow. As they dream bigger, we continue to build for them.’’
So, the company intends to target new customers who are now mature and are “optimists who see the world as it is, yet still believe in what could be.”
It is after 11 years that the company has redesigned the Redmi logo to reflect its new aspirations for the users.
The logo also reflects how the company now sees itself. According to the company, it is “now bolder, more confident, and more uncompromising in fuelling your limitless aspirations.”
Moreover, the new brand identity marks the beginning of its latest phase. In a statement, it has said, “Our new look is just the beginning.”
