Whether you’re using cards, stationery, writing paper, or other printed documents, getting the right size paper is a key to seamless communication. B-series papers come handy while A-series papers aren’t feasible. Just like the A-series papers, the dimensions of this paper are determined by the ISO 216 International Standard. When the A-series papers are too big or small for a document, using B5 paper size is considered the best.

How A-series and B-series paper sizes are related to each other?
The B series paper sizes fall between each of the A-series paper sizes. For example, B6 paper size measures between A5 and A6. Based on the same concept, when you fold a B-series paper sheet, it results in the next smaller size. Likewise, B4 paper size is half of B3, B3 is half of B2, and B2 is half of B1. Same as the A-series, the ratio of B-series is 1:√2.
In an office setting, the use of Bs series paper is less likely. They are used mostly in posters while the B5 paper size is commonly used for books. Its other uses are passports and envelopes too.
Like every B size, a B5 paper sheet cannot be printed with a personal printer. It’s because the size is used in professional printing. This paper size is used to create magazines, menus, or flyers for advertising.
In simple terms, it’s the edge of the B5 paper size which is going to be chopped off by the machine. Make sure to fill this area with color and image so that there won’t be any white space left during the trimming.
B5 paper size printing mistakes to avoid
Ignoring the bleed area
it’s perhaps the most common problem in printing the domain out there. To fix it, start with the dimensions of the document that have a full bleed size. Extend all the graphics to the edge and keep the text within the safety lines.
Safety line doesn’t accommodate text and graphics
The text and graphics going beyond the safety line aren’t correct. In that scenario, the text and the graphics may cut off during cutting and printing as they come closer to the trim line.
Not positioning the borders correctly
when getting the file ready for B6 paper size or B4 paper size printing, ignoring borders is very common. To fix this problem, make your borders either thick or position it inside the safety line. However, many printers suggest not adding borders as their cutters do not cut the borders straight.
Not matching the artboard size with the size of design
When getting a print file ready, the canvas/artboard must be of the same size as the print design. This allows the printer to easily add the printer marks. But if the size doesn’t match, the printer may charge you extra bucks for the adjustments. So to avoid this, use a template file or set up it to match with the dimensions of your design.
Why is paper marketing still relevant even in the era of digital marketing?
Here are some reasons why paper marketing never goes out of style for marketers:
Paper-based marketing materials are tangible — tangibility is said to create an instant psychological response, which is stronger. Paper-based marketing materials take up space as well as the physical contact engages more senses than online-based materials.
It adds to brand recall — according to TrueImpact’s research, physical marketing engages the memory in a better way. During brand naming, people who went saw paper-based marketing for that particular business had 75% recall than 44% of audiences who just saw the digital advertisement.
Higher review time — as compared to online marketing, paper marketing has higher review time. Catalogs and postcards with engaging content stimulate the brain and attract the audience making it harder for them to go away. Colors, size, everything makes the reader hold it for longer
Where can you find the B5 paper size templates or info?
Some of the best paper marketing materials are designed from size templates sourced from platforms like Designhill.
