Allow your passion to become your purpose and one day it’ll be your profession. That’s clearly stated when we talk about one of our artists who followed her passion for pattern designing and took it to the next level as a professional.
Elizabeth Rachael, a multi-skilled womenswear designer from Birmingham (UK) and currently living in Manchester UK, who specializes in textile print and graphic design. Since childhood, she loved to play homey-homey with her friends and create clothes like any other innocent girl. Her love for creating garments grew so high that she decided to turn her passion into a fruitful career.
She graduated from The Manchester School of Art (MMU) in 2012 with a diploma in Textiles for Fashion. There she felt her love for print clothing design and became addicted to it.
After being spotted at Graduate Fashion Week, Elizabeth headed straight into the world of print design with her first job for one of the UK’s biggest high street retailers. Today, her work has sold internationally and can be seen in places such as WGSN, Zara, M&S, Primark, F&F, etc.
Gaining a new perspective from her studies and leading it to a full-time career, she felt her talent’s worth and lead it with destiny. In the process, she met various people and gained exposure which anyone could see in her art style; merged into an inspiring one.
During her full-time job role, she also kept herself occupied in freelance projects to gain the ultimate exposure to showcase her talent and make money at the same time. The same moment she got to know about Designhill and decided to revel herself to ultimate dream – a dream to be successful!

“The joy of dressing is art with no limits. It involves your presence of mind and soul both. Since my childhood, I have been fascinated by the soft touch of various fabrics, playing with them to create a new form, dressing my creations as a princess, and providing a sense of style to my armor. I always wished to create my own line of clothing or at least dress up the whole world with my imagination.” – Elizabeth Rachael

Elizabeth- Art is A Lifestyle.
Designhill – What inspired you to become a Pattern Artist?
Elizabeth- I’ve always loved fashion, and loved making garments as a teenager, but as soon as I studied fashion at college, I got addicted to print design. It wasn’t until I went to university that I even knew it was a career!
Designhill – How would you describe your approach to design?
Elizabeth- Well, for me, “Life is too short to wear boring clothes. I believe in giving Life to Lifestyle.”
And, I describe my style as FUN! I never take myself or my designs too seriously. Most of the time I just put pen to paper and see where it takes me.
Designhill – Are you working as a full time or freelancer?
Elizabeth- Both! I currently work full time as a womenswear print, graphic and clothing designer. But, I do freelance every single evening to keep up with demand. Also, I have been working on design projects in my free time. So yeah, you can say walking on both the roads. ROFL.
Designhill – What are you passionate about besides your work?
Elizabeth – Cats and plants!
Designhill – Who or what has been the biggest influence on your approach to designing?
Elizabeth – Alexander McQueens 2010 Plato’s Atlantis collection. The birth of digital print that changed the industry. I was at university during this collection and it influenced my entire degree. I actually specialized in digital print up until I landed my first job as an assistant print designer, and found out that the industry is favored towards screen print.
Designhill – What is your strongest skill and how have you honed it over the years?
Elizabeth – To be honest, I don’t have a niche. I worried about this for a long time, until I decided to completely own it. Therefore, florals, paisleys, abstract, digital- you name it, I can do it! The work on my Instagram is pretty commercial, but has an edgier streak too!
Designhill – How do you always make sure you’re improving your skills?
Elizabeth – By constantly working. I used to watch a ton of tutorials back in the day, but I rarely have the time now.
Designhill – Any Advice for aspiring artists / designers?
Elizabeth – Just be yourself darlings! Follow your passion, your ultimate love. Coz if you don’t love what you do, nobody would love it. Create things that mean something to you and showcase your love, your passion. And, fun is the key to do it. Take it as fun, then you’ll kill it.
