Being An Artist presents the journey of an artist hailing from New Delhi, India whose struggles and emotions made him one of the aspiring artists of the world. Meet Shubhajeet Dey.
Shubhajeet is a digital artist who believes to express his thoughts and emotions through sketches and cartoons. Since his school days, he used to create illustrations and doodles during the classes on the back of his notebooks.
Though he graduated and started his career in a different field, his love of art never let him feel alone. At one point in time when he was struggling in his first job as a fresher, he made his mind to follow his heart and fulfill his artistic dreams.
Now, he’s a freelance illustrator and cartoonist. He’s also selling his artwork on PrintShop and receiving the deserved recognition all around the globe.

Asking About His Artistic Journey And His Love For Art, He Says:
“After spending thousands on trying to become something that I don’t believe in, finally, I figured out what exactly I want in my life. I want to be an artist, a world-renowned artist. Today, everything that I have ever learned about doodling and somehow illustrating is by incessant scribbling on the back of my notebooks in class. I still remember my first job when my seniors used to behave rudely with me without any reason. It felt so bad when you get scolded by your senior in front of your colleagues without doing any mistakes, just because you are a fresher. Those times were very tough for me because I didn’t know how to express my feelings just because I was a fresher. I didn’t have any right to point out my senior so I decided to use my drawing skills and draw sarcastically whatever I feel so. It turned out to be a stress buster for me. But somehow my drawing got leaked and noticed by my seniors. But a miracle happened, they realized their mistakes and apologized to me. That moment, I realized that sometimes when your words aren’t enough, your art speaks for you. Therefore, I decided to become the voice of the people who are struggling to express themselves and started sarcastic comics doodle art on Instagram. I received a lot of appreciation and love. That’s how my journey started. Now, I’m a freelancer and have collaborated with various platforms.”
PrintShop: What’s your process of creating a piece of artwork and what tools and techniques do you use?
Shubhajeet: I am a digital artist. I use digital platforms like Desktop, Pen tablet, Ipad to create a piece of artwork. Some of the other software I prefer to create illustrations are Procreate, Adobe Illustrator & Adobe Photoshop.
PrintShop: How do you find inspiration and stay creative?
Shubhajeet: My biggest inspiration is the outer world. We are so much busy with our technology that we had forgotten to raise our heads and watch what is happening in this world rather than watching Netflix.
So, every time I go outside and travel somewhere I will make sure that my mobile phones will be in my pocket and at that point of time I realize how beautiful the world is and there are tons of ideas floating near your eyes but the only thing we need to do is “OBSERVE”.
PrintShop: Did you face any challenges in your artistic journey? If yes, How did you overcome it?
Shubhajeet: The biggest challenge for me is to find ideas for my comics because finding new concepts ideas on the daily routine looks like a tough job.
So, every time I am in lack of ideas, I go outside for a short walk because for me surroundings itself are a bag of ideas. Observation is the key, the more you observe the more you will get new ideas.
PrintShop: What is the best advice you’ve gotten as an artist or the most important thing you’ve learned?
Shubhajeet: One of the most important things I had learned as an artist is to never limit yourself for someone who knows nothing about art.
Lots of criticism will come in your way but always remember. Criticism will only make you better than before only if you take it as a lesson instead of taking it as hatred.
You are the artist and your art will be the voice of someone who needs you. So, never stop yourself. Keep Improving.
