The artist has the power to transform, illuminate, educate, motivate and inspire others. There is no wonder why big brands are collaborating with several artists to grab the attention of their potential clients. PrintShop By Designhill presents ‘Being An Artist’ series where we are talking about the artistic journey of a lettering artist hailing from the UK who loves to help brands attracting their dream clients. Let’s welcome Stephanie Honey who is a well-renowned lettering artist, illustrator and creative designer with a flair of marketing.

When a brand wants to share the story in an empowering way, they look for creative people who can clear any conundrum in the simplest way. They need artistic inspiration who can understand the brand intensity and depict their actions in an artistic style.

Stephanie Honey understands it and makes sure her freelance company provides all the solutions to the brands’ needs with an artistic feel.

Stephanie Art

Talking about Stephanie, she started her freelance career 10 years ago when she used to learn typography and calligraphy. She was so passionate about the art that she decided to create her own company and take the lead to participate in the global market.

She knew that marketing is the only way to sublime in the hearts of people and the best marketers always believe to create relationships with the audience. She made her mind to enhance her artistic skills with the pinch of marketing gimmick to get noticed.

Today, she is working with the big brand helping them make the best of use of art in their marketing strategies and dwelling into the customer’s minds.

Along with her company, she partnered with PrintShop and started sharing her variant artworks on the platform to showcase her love for art and make money at the same time.

We decided to get in touch with her and ask about her love for lettering, she said,

Stephanie Honey

“I started my freelance company about 10 years ago. I’d always been very creative but over the past few years, I’ve realized where my passion lies i.e typography and how there can be beauty in letters as much as there is in an illustration. Today, I’m a lettering artist, illustrator and graphic designer with a flair for marketing. I love creating amazing creatives and helping brands to attract their dream clients. When I first started Dear Charlie, my company, we didn’t set any goals but focussed on one dream. A dream that we could cover all our clients’ needs, meaning they get the both of best worlds. But, we also believed that without risk, there is no fun and without fun, there is no success. In the modern-day global market, you have to find a proper way to communicate your project values, strengths and brand.”

PrintShop: What’s your process of creating a piece of artwork and what tools and techniques do you use?

Stephanie: I start off scribbling in a sketchbook (nothing perfect). Then, I move to my iPad Pro which allows me to quickly further develop ideas either on Procreate or Adobe Fresco.

PrintShop: How do you find inspiration and stay creative?

Stephanie: I try to find inspiration in various ways; sometimes comedic and sometimes humble. I think it’s great to take risks and chances – granted they don’t always work out but I’d rather try and fail than never try at all.

PrintShop: Did you face any challenges in your artistic journey? If yes, How did you overcome it?

Stephanie: I’d say there are a lot of challenges you can face during your art career. It can be anything from artist block (which can happen more than often) to putting out great content but not understanding how to promote your work effectively.

For the artist block, I think it’s important not to push yourself too much. Remembering to take breaks is helpful and helps refuel the mind. Immerse yourself in a book, listen to some music, or perhaps watch a film.

Promoting your work is a tricky one. I started researching, which helped me understand social media algorithms. However, in reality, it sometimes helps to look at someone similar to your style and see how they are promoting their work.

I have learned a lot of tricks by doing this. By looking at their hashtags and understanding who they tag in their photos (giving brands a tag even if you’re not being paid to do so). Being an artist, you should prepare yourself as per the current marketing trend.

PrintShop: What is the best advice you’ve gotten as an artist or the most important thing you’ve learned?

Stephanie: To not be afraid to try something because someone else thinks it is a bad idea.

Art is subjective so you are never going to have ‘everybody’ liking your work. But as long as you are proud of it, then there will be others who would feel the same too.
