DISCOVER ILLUSTRATION AND GRAPHICS IDEAS & INSPIRATION
ARTBLOCK
We can see here in the middle of the illustration is a light bulb, it is commonly known that the light bulb is one of the symbols for an idea, and having that said, the light bulb in the illustration shows that it doesn\\\'t have an electric energy that produces light but a single candle lit by a match. I want to show that in these challenges. When an artist is currently having an art block, he is like a bulb with a poor light like a candle, but when he overcomes that art block, the bulb will light up strongly. That shows the rush of ideas and inspiration to create. When you look closely, you can see that there is a brain above the lightbulb it represents the artist\\\'s mind. In the background, you can see the artworks hanged in the wall, it represents the inspirations from the references he had from having art block. It is also the actual references I used for our output
LAZINESS
We’re showing you the reality where a designer is in his slacking off phase. Where they don’t want to move a muscle and just take a lot of rest even if they haven’t done anything yet. In this illustration, we can see that the guy is resting in a hammock while doing his stuff in his smart off. It symbolizes one of many things that a designer does when they don’t want to produce a design and just want to be a slack off all day long. You can see a snail in the background with an alarm clock used as a shell. It symbolizes the mindset of the artist, they thought that time is slow and they’ve got all the time in the world. But underneath it is a whole ton of paperwork and backlogs that have been piled up high because they spent their time slacking despite a heavy workload. You can also notice that there are papers that have an “x” mark, it symbolizes that the papers have a short period of the deadline so they need to comply as soon as possible. At the bottom left, you can see a pen tablet that is a common tool used to create an artwork. But at the top of it is a game controller, it shows that we often choose to play around rather than completing the task at hand.
PROCRASTINATION
We often see procrastination and laziness as somewhat alike but we will explain why it is not. Not complying with your deadlines and slacking off is called laziness. On the other hand, procrastination is having a choice which to prioritize. We have a choice whether to finish the newly added project because it is easier than giving more time and attention to our main project which is a highly prioritized workload that takes a lot of time to finish. We often think carelessly that the lesser the time it needs to get done, the faster we can finish the workload and receive new projects. Because of this, it slowly eats up our time that is supposedly reserved for the most important tasks and can affect us monumentally. You can see a girl who fell asleep on her desk for staying up late. Her laptop is turned on and at the side of it is a trash bin full of crumpled paper that represents all her ideas so she can prepare the design properly. It is visible that the cup of coffee is placed at the top of one after another to help her get through the night. In front of her is a clock that says “5:36 am” indication that it is time to prepare for her 7 am class. At the top of it is a huge cup of coffee which represents a common phrase “sa sobrang puyat mo, pati yung kape mo napuyat na at kailangan na rin nitong mag kape” from some students who experience lack of sleep most of the time because or paperwork and workload.
FINANCIAL
Many of us designers here in the Philippines started from nothing, the resources are limited and we are stuck in pen and paper as a medium for expressing our ideas in art. While some can produce a better and much greater design for they have complete materials, also the support of their parents regarding their passion is an important matter. This illustration shows the problems that we as designers are currently facing right now, the lack of budget for investing in better equipment and materials. Here we can see that the guy is reaching for a flag, coins are scattered everywhere thrown by hands wearing formal attire. In the background, it is visible that there are two persons at the top of the piled coins who effortlessly got their flags. If you noticed, the flag was not too high for the guy to reach if he only jumped a little higher. I want to show that an artist can reach his goal and endeavors by being persistent. No matter how long and painful it would take us to compare to others, what’s important is we’re trying to reach for the top and we don’t give up on our goals. All it takes is patience and perseverance. In regards to the saying “you think you’re not enough because you let someone else determine your worth” is divided into two different perspectives. One of the biggest problems why artists stopped following their passion is the lack of support from their parents. I know a lot of people who chose a different course and left their passion for drawing because their parents keep on telling them that they won’t be of any good if they’re going to pursue arts. The other one is the Client who underestimates the work of a designer they commissioned and offers them a low price for a high budget project.
