How difficult it is. To doubt all the time. To truly question everything. It is, in fact, impossible to do. I can’t doubt that the earth will hold me as I walk across it, else I can’t move. Neither do I have capacity to research everything. Yet to simply believe things without question often leads to bad decisions and worse actions. Indeed, at least to me, this is the primary reason to doubt. If I don’t question, for example, if some medical practice will cure or kill, then the potential for harm is great. But to not act also has the potential for great harm. And thus the moral dilemma: how do I decide what it is I do? Where’s the balance? How and when do you step past doubt and act? I certainly can’t answer these questions in their entirety or, even, for any individual. But in this blog I hope to address such questions both in terms of foundational principles and in terms of what people have done as a result of their doubting and as a result of their not doubting. It is intended to be a discussion of journeys that start from doubt.

I need a Facebook circular logo and page banner for my blog “Starting From Doubt: A curious exploration of reality.”

My thought for the circular logo is a stylized version of “SFD”. But I’m open to other suggestions. The above questions ask "What name do you want in your logo?" and "Do you have a slogan you want incorporated in your logo?" I'm not sure I want these in the logo. That seems a bit much for something that should be simple.

Let me say up front that the following thoughts contain a lot of potential symbolism. I am conscious of the limited space in a FB banner. I am looking for something that compromises between lots of symbols and simplicity.

My idea for the banner is a journey so, a road or path with a person or character traveling along it with a set of symbols along the way. Maybe 3 main images of the character: the start of the journey, stopping to examine something, and a continuing down the path. Consistent with the theme, the beginning should include a question mark. I’m really into flowers so the second image is probably a stop to smell (and examine) the roses reference (maybe include a random distribution of some flowers overall.)

My thought for the character is probably humanoid. The one nonhuman character I would consider is a dragon.

My idea is that the path should go through trees or woods then continue into the distance over a mountain and into a starry sky. (I realize this might be too much for a FB banner.)

I want the symbols to capture science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).  Science breaks down into physics, chemistry, biology, social sciences, and medicine. Some potential symbols (with versions of the first 4 highly desired):

1.     A right triangle with sides labeled “a”, “b”, and “c”. Probably including the Pythagorean theorem (a squared + b squared = c squared)

3.     The standard caduceus symbol for medicine.

4.     Probably a rocket ship headed into the stars. (engineering and technology)

5.     Maybe the DNA double helix. (biology)

6.     Maybe something to represent the earth

7.     Maybe something to represent the oceans

8.     Maybe a bridge along the path. (engineering)

9.     Something for social sciences, maybe a crowd?

The audience includes skeptics, secularists, and atheists
