PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A BUSINESS BOOK (NOT A COMEDY BOOK). THE COVER SHOULD TELL THE AUDIENCE THAT THIS BOOK CAN HELP YOU BECOME MORE EFFECTIVE AT BUSINESS (NOT STAND UP COMEDY). I REALLY WANT TO CONVEY A TONE SIMILAR TO MALCOLM GLADWELL BOOK COVERS. I REALLY WANT TO STAY AWAY MIC STANDS AND/OR CARICATURES. THE TARGET AUDIENCE IS WORKING/CAREER PROFESSIONALS, NOT FOLKS LOOKING TO DO STAND-UP. THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS!

Here's more context:
Stand-up comedy helped me find myself in business. It enabled me to break free of living outside of my heart and soul. It also helped me find my voice, be present and stop doing things for reasons other than experiencing joy and fulfilment. The purpose of this book therefore is to provide those same lessons to you so you can say what you want, feel what you want and do what you want to be the person you want to be. And yes, without getting fired.
For those of you terrified to do stand-up comedy or even speak in public, don’t worry. While the lessons can help you in those domains, they are intended for business people who have never endeavored, and might never try, stand-up comedy.

You know when people use sports analogies to describe a business situation---“par for the course”, “here’s the game plan” or “dude, you just bit my ear off”? Clearly, you don’t need to be good at golf, football or cannibalism to understand, and use them. Likewise, you don’t need to be any kind of comedian, stand-up or otherwise, to get value from this book.

Similarly, while it can also be helpful to refer to this book if you are a stand-up comedian, it is not a “how to do stand-up 101” course. The lessons are more about finding your true voice so that you can experience joy and become more fulfilled and effective in your career. A good example of this is the chapter on being present. While it’s true that presence is a must for any good stand-up routine, I believe that it can help anyone with whatever they are doing. The benefits of which are universally applicable. By the way, what were we talking about again?

Comediology is a book about sharing key learnings from stand-up comedy and applying them to business in the hopes that others can use them to become for effective and fulfilled at work. After all, comedy is no longer just for the cast of Saturday Night Live, the illustrious dreamers and the perpetual unemployed.

busi•ness
A person's regular occupation, profession, or trade, which, if left unchecked without fun can lead to your soul sucked dry.

com•e•dy
The study of professional entertainment or amusement, consisting of jokes and satirical sketches, intended to make an audience laugh and historically occupied by food service workers and the unemployed.

Com•e•di•ol•o•gy
Applying successful comedic techniques, traditionally used to amuse, entertain,
or make an audience laugh, to your regular occupation, profession or trade to enhance your daily effectiveness, fulfillment and joy.
Who would typically read your book?
Professionals in the business world who are anxious, stressed, unfulfilled and have had it up to here with hiding their true selves to survive in corporate America.
Describe what you’re looking for in more detail
Definitely more on the professional side but with a fun flare to it. I also thought about the smiley face with a line through it and have it saying "Get Real" as an option. I like Malcolm Gladwell's cover for Blink.
Is your design for a hardback or paperback book?
  • Hardback
Provide details about your selected choices above for the front cover of the book
Yes...I want this to say, "this will be a fun read" but it's more for business NOT for stand up. The principles are from stand up and applied to business but it's a fun business book NOT a stand up book. Oh and please have fun doing it :)
Provide details your selected choices above for the back cover of the book
Please refer to Malcolm Gladwell Books (e.g., Blink) and emulate those designs for spine and back of the book, thank you

I also like the front of his books too and I think it meshes well as a design basis for this book...serious but contemplative. It's simple in design and and invites the reader as entertaining and fun to read but definitely business minded.

I want it to say "here's how you can be better at business" NOT "here's how you can be better at stand-up"
Is there anything designers should avoid?
Smoking. I hear it's bad for you
