When is Mother’s Day in 2021?
A day isn’t enough to celebrate motherhood; however, Mother’s Day gives us a perfect reason to say your mom — "thank you." In 2021, Mother’s Day will fall on Sunday, 9th May.
Mother’s Day History and Origin
Every year, Mother's Day falls on the second Sunday of May. Anna M. Jarvis of the USA first proposed the idea of celebrating Mother's Day. Mrs. Jarvis served as a Sunday school teacher in Grafton's Andrew's Methodist Church for about two decades. When Jarvis was barely 12 years old, she found her mother's wish during a Sunday school session on mothers in the Holy Bible. At that time, Jarvis told her mother that there would be a day dedicated to mothers one day, and someone will come forward to do this. Until then, there were days reserved for men but not for women.
Two years after her mother's death, Jarvis and her friends started a campaign. Under this campaign, they began writing letters to authorities for declaring a National Mother's Day holiday. She also noticed that children often ignored the efforts a mother puts in every day. Jarvis wanted children to value their parents, especially mothers. Jarvis hoped that the day would come, and it would strengthen the family bonds.
On 8th May 1914, the US Congress declared the second Sunday of the month as Mother's Day. Even President Woodrow Wilson came forward and announced this day as a national holiday.
Since then, it became a custom to rejoice Mother's Day and appreciate her efforts.
